He can't quite put his finger on it

Uncle Fred is out on the lanai, snoozing in his easy chair, when his nephew bounds in, fresh from school.

F. "Hey, hey Tommy! So, what did they teach you today, my boy genius? "

T. "Today we learned all about our hands & fingers in science class!"

F. "Oh yeah? Izatso? Lemi test you, sonny. Ready?"

T. "Ready!"

F. "Ok, here we go!"

Fred holds up his thumb. "All right, What's this one?"

T. "That's a thumb!"

F. "Right you are! What's it good for?"

T. "Miss Harlot said we use it to vote, like at midterms."

F. "Correct again. So, who'd you vote for, boy?"

T. "Up for yes, down for 'Hell no!'

(Both laugh)

Next Fred raises his index finger.

T. "That's your index finger. It's good for pointing, looking up words in the Dictionary like A #1! & pushing all the buttons in the elevator."

F. "Perfect Tommy boy! You'll ace your exam for sure!"

Uncle Fred, holding up his fourth finger, "lightning round, Sonny. What's this?"

T. "That's your ring finger!"

F. "And why do we have one?"

T. "That's for getting married."

F. "Right as rain again! I remember when you were justa baby, your daddy put one on your mama's hand. Home stretch, last round comin' up."

Fred extends his pinky. "Littlest finger, but a big moment. Maestro, drum roll, please.

(bangs his hands on his knees) "what's this one?"

Tommy holds out his finger. "That's easy. I promise to feed my fish, make my bed, brush my teeth, and.....? oh yeah, for cleaning our ears."

F. "And always do as you're told?"

T. "Yessir!" (Holding out his little finger) That's a pinky promise!" Then he ran off.

Once back in his rocker, Fred dozed off, but suddenly, Tommy returned.

T. "Uncle Fred, uncle Fred wake up!"

F. "What is it boy?"

T. "We forgot one, we forgot!"

F. "Forgot what, T-bone?"

Tommy gives Fred the finger and said, "we forgot the middle one!"

Fred balked at first, paused to think. Then after a minute, he grinned & said,

F. "Oh that's the most important one! We need that finger to drive with!"
